Sometimes, autistic kids wander.

Sometimes, autistic kids wander. Mainly, I think this happens when there’s something overwhelming or overpowering happening. And this bolting, or wandering, off can be scary for their parents and kids alike. It also can be dangerous. Charlie, in The Someday Birds, tends to get antsy feet he can’t control when things are hard. Sometimes, he bolts, too. It is not something my boys did, but as a child, it’s something I remember doing.

Today, a bill gained senate approval to provide some resources for this wandering issue. Even better than money for tracking devices, though, would be spending time. Spending love. Raising the budget on person-to-person understanding. Easing stress. Those things would help too.

But this is a nice start.
